Followed by the second part of the “duet,” Dreamquake. As a result of the discovery of guided dreaming, a dreamhunter industry has been created. Laura Hame is the protagonist and heroine of the duet. Both tell of a mysterious geographic region here called “the Place” with unusual powers and properties, and of the mnox caste made up of those designated to explore it.

A mindblowingly original story written by an NZ author – this is well worth recommending to all readers. I was a bit offended as a reader that The Place was the main reason I wanted to read this book and then it was barely explained!!!! Bird Box Josh Malerman. We’re mostly not shown Laura and Sandy’s intimacy – we’re told it. I was hooked, almost literally, for the entire pages of this novel. No water flows, and no fire burns. Laura discovers the terrible deeds that the government executes using dreamhunting namely the torture of prisoners via nightmares and the use of the dream “Contentment” -which makes one purposeless and zombie-like- to achieve their ends.

Grace dreakhunter romantic adventures to large audiences in the Rainbow Opera; Tziga takes healing dreams to hospitals, and contracts to the government. I am obsessed and kind of want to re-read it immediately.
